Community Learning Center, a nonprofit adult literacy organization in Philadelphia, seeks a full-time Pre-GED teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Teach reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science to build adult learners’ skills so that learners can advance to GED level classes and then earn a GED
- Maintain accurate and timely attendance, assessment, goal, and other data
- Prepare student-centered, contextualized lessons
- Attend professional meetings
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- Experience teaching adults preferred
- Experience and/or training in teaching reading preferred
- Strong base of general knowledge
- Excellent organizational, writing, and computer skills

Part-Time Career Coach
Community Learning Center, a nonprofit adult literacy organization offering free Adult Basic Education, GED, and ESL classes in Philadelphia, seeks a part-time career coach to join its Student Services Program. This is a long-term, part-time position–24 hours per week, Monday through Thursday. The schedule will include one evening per week. The other hours will be in the daytime. In addition, the schedule will include one Friday morning per month.
Responsibilities:
- Provide non-academic instruction and support to help ensure that students attend class regularly, make educational gains, and achieve goals–particularly the goals of e earning a GED and/or transitioning to employment, postsecondary education, or vocational training
- Coach students in work readiness/employability and job search skills
- Research and network with potential employers to develop employment opportunities for students
- Research and network with vocational training programs to develop training opportunities for students
- Maintain accurate and timely activity and outcome records
- Help organize and conduct application sessions for prospective students
- Assist learners and GED graduates with developing and executing plans to achieve goals
- Monitor learners’ progress toward achieving goals
- Encourage students to register for GED tests promptly when they are prepared to pass them
- Assist students with applications for college financial aid
- Maintain list of community resources that can help learners resolve personal issues that could raise barriers to attending classes and reaching goals
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- Experience in adult education, job development, job placement, human resources, and/or case management
