Fueling Philadelphia’s Talent Engine

Citywide Workforce Development Launch
Earlier this month, Mayor Kenney unveiled a new workforce development strategy for the city. Fueling Philadelphia’s Talent Engine is a comprehensive workforce strategy created by the City and our partners, including Philadelphia Works, the School District, Community College of Philadelphia, and numerous others. It is designed to align workforce education and training to the needs of industry in order to help more Philadelphians secure long-term, family-sustaining employment. The plan provides specific recommendations to guide Philadelphia’s public, private and nonprofit sectors towards accomplishing three big-picture goals: better preparing job seekers with the skills they need, eliminating barriers, and coordinating more effectively across institutions.
Fueling Philadelphia’s Talent Engine, which was announced during the Mayor’s third annual address to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, was well-received by attendees and resulted in a number of positive press stories in the following days from the Inquirer, Philadelphia Business Journal, and others. The strategy and accompanying documents are available online at http://phila.gov/workforce.
