Greensgrow, in partnership with Hunger Free America, is seeking a dynamic AmeriCorps VISTA member to join our team in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Greensgrow is a nonprofit urban farm with a mission to engage our neighborhoods in cultivating social entrepreneurship, urban agriculture, and community greening. Founded in 1997, Greensgrow is a nationally recognized leader in developing urban agriculture projects that create jobs and provide access to fresh produce in our communities. Through our CSA and Farm Markets programs we support local farmers, partner with mission-aligned organizations and increase fresh food access in communities where access is limited. The Fresh Food Programs Coordinator will report directly to the Fresh Food Manager and will be responsible for growing the capacity of our food access programs and developing and implementing evaluation tools to be utilized in future outreach and programming.
Job Responsibilities:
- Improve access to local food options through increased awareness and engagement at farmers’ markets and our CSA pickup
- Coordinate on-site nutrition and culinary education programs for SNAP Share members
- Assist with marketing and communications efforts for our CSA members (all) + our Farmstand & Mobile Markets
- Attend relevant meetings and conferences on behalf of Greensgrow and coordinate with local agencies and partners
- Implement and maintain member tracking and evaluation tools via our membership platforms
- Assist with recruitment and retention of CSA Members
- Manage SNAP Share social media pages including relevant events (Greensgrow’s or partner organization)
- Map SNAP Share members for continued outreach, revisit historical and current data to create campaign
- Design and create fact sheets for SNAP Share members for EBT/SNAP benefit use (a “How to guide”)
- Assist with inventory management for retail + CSA/SNAP programs
- Assist with copy & content for our weekly newsletters as well as online materials (this includes nutrition information & education)
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with community outreach, teaching or training
- Knowledge of or interest in nutrition principles and food insecurity
- Familiarity with food resources such as SNAP, farmers’ markets, urban agriculture, pantries, and summer meals programs
- Familiarity with Philadelphia preferred
- Access to a reliable car is helpful, otherwise comfort with public transportation
- Strong writing skills
Requirements:
- Driver’s license
- 18 years of age or older
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences
- Ability to multitask, and function independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms
Time Commitment:
This is a one year, full time position beginning with orientation in late June 2016. You are expected to be available for the needs of your community and project at all times, including days, nights and weekends. Because AmeriCorps VISTA service requires a full immersion in the project and community, there are restrictions on outside full time employment, along with some restrictions on political and religious activities.
