Free Webinar: Interdisciplinary Work in Emergency Management and Service-Learning Courses, Apr. 30
Posted by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on April 30, 2019
This webinar, Interdisciplinary Work in Emergency Management and Service-Learning Courses, is being offered April 30, 2019, 2:00-3:00 PM by colleagues at Cornell, University of South Florida, and FEMA’s Higher Education Program. Please share with your emergency management faculty on campus!
Integration of different disciplines in the design of an emergency management service-learning course provides a unique opportunity to enhance discussions and solve real-world problems. Faculty from Cornell University and the University of South Florida will provide examples of how they have taken an interdisciplinary approach to service-learning to understand complex issues and evaluate solutions to these challenges. Instead of sharing a set of fundamental skills and experience, students are able to benefit from the collective expertise of their peers and working with diverse community partners. Through service-learning courses, faculty are able to provide opportunities for students to learn how to work productively with other disciplines and use their existing knowledge to address a need in the community. Join us to learn about how to foster these experiences in your courses to help prepare students for an integrated approach to learning, expanding their capacity to work across disciplines in their professional work, and foster a willingness to participate in civic life in their communities.
