Free Tutoring: Boston Scholars Tutoring
Posted by Phillips Andover Academy on December 10, 2024
We believe that every person deserves a quality education. We provide educational support to young learners. Whether you need homework support, want to learn a new concept, or wish to get ahead in class, we are here to help.
Boston Scholars was started by students at Phillips Andover Academy. This initiative aims to tutor underserved students of all ages (from pre-k to adults getting their GEDs). The tutors students who attend Phillips Academy Andover and have been lucky enough to receive excellent academic opportunities and would like to give back to the community. We have experience tutoring both classmates in our school and students outside of it.
Our service offers free one-on-one tutoring through zoom once or twice a week. We individually teach to the students’ needs. Our tutoring could range from homework help to teaching competition math, and we tutor in all subjects including math, reading/writing, science, coding, etc. We have a safety protocol that at the parent’s request we will record and save the zoom meetings.
Our program aims to target underserved communities that otherwise would not have access to tutoring. In doing so, we have connected with over 140 students, and our 100+ tutors have amassed over 2000 hours of meeting time. The majority of our students are of color and have annual household incomes of less than 70k.
Working with us could take many forms, such as sharing our fliers with underprivileged families and referring students to us who might benefit from extra academic support. Also, it would be great if you could refer us to other programs that could benefit from our service.
Our website provides specific details about our program and how families can sign up.
