Free Trees, A Reminder
Posted by on May 17, 2002
Dear Tree Tenders and Friends of Tree Tenders,
During the present heat wave and before the new fall season begins in September, please remember that September 13, 2001 is the drop dead deadline for applying for some of the 200 free street trees that the Fairmount Park Commission is offering to Tree Tender groups under the terms set forth in the letter and application form attached.
While we all are concerned with keeping our existing crop of street trees alive in the present harsh conditions, planning for new trees, particularly on presently barren or "under forested" blocks, is also necessary.
It’s also important that we meet (or exceed) the 200 tree target assigned by FPC to insure this becomes part of the annual Tree Tender agenda. To make that happen, these trees must requested by, monitored, if not cared for, trained Tree Tenders (or Tree Tender Groups) to make certain that they equal, if not exceed, the survival rate of the average street tree in the city.
While the present 200 trees will not be planted until the Fall of 2003, we need your input now to guarantee that they will be indeed be going into the ground in your city neighborhood.
If you have additional questions, call me at (215) 988-8844.
Best,
Mike Hardy,
