Choose the best option for you to prepare for the SAT & ACT tests!
OPTION #1 – Take our *NEW* Combo ACT/SAT practice test to see which test you score well in and what specific areas you may need to study more. Come back in a week to review your scores and get tips from testing experts from Kaplan!
OPTION #2 – Take the Combo test and review and join us for SAT classes OR ACT classes based on which test you decide to take. Then join us for a full practice test to get you ready for the real thing!
OPTION #3 – Prepare for BOTH tests! Take the Combo test and review and join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays for both SAT & ACT classes. Stick around for both practice tests too!
Registration ends September 14th
(Priority will be given to 12th grade students preparing for Fall tests. More classes will be offered next semester to prepare for late Spring test dates.)
CACDC SAT & ACT Prep Class FAQ’s:
Q: What if by the time I get this information the Combo Test and Review session have already passed, can I still register for the prep classes and practice test(s)?
A: Yes as long as you register before September 14th and attend the first prep class.
Q: Why are all the options grouped together? What if I just want to take one or two prep classes or just take the practice tests?
A: We set up the workshops so that ideally, students who participate from the first workshop up to the final practice test will receive consistent practice that along with self-study will hopefully improve their test results. If there is a specific subject area you’d like to study more than others, please feel free to stop by the Center during walk-in hours to get help from our college prep tutors and utilize the prep books in our resource room and online sites.
Q: What if I am scheduled to take the ACT or SAT before all the prep classes are complete? Should I still continue to come to the prep classes?
A: Yes. You should come to all of the classes you signed up for even if you take the official ACT or SAT before the classes end. Especially if you plan to take either test a second time, the prep classes will help you.
Q: The email says priority given to 12th grade students. Does that mean if I am in 11th grade or lower that I cannot register for the classes?
A: It depends. We will give priority to 12th grade students and place all other grade levels on our hold list. We will confirm registration for those on the hold list a few days before classes if there are spaces left in the class. This ensures that 12th grade students can prep for the upcoming Fall tests. But we will offer the same classes again during 2nd semester and especially encourage 11th grade students to register to prep for the May or June tests.
Q: Do I register to take the official ACT or SAT test through the CACDC?
A: No. You should register for the ACT online at http://www.act.org and for the SAT at http://www.collegeboard.com. Please check these sites for registration deadlines and fees. But you may definitely use the CACDC computer lab to access these sites.
Q: I missed the deadline to register for the SAT & ACT prep classes, but I really need help preparing for the SAT and ACT test(s).
A: If you are not able to attend the classes due to scheduling conflicts or the class fills up, please feel free to come in to the Center during walk in hours Monday – Friday 1:00pm – 5:00pm to get help from our college prep tutors who can show you how to use the SAT & ACT prep resource books and online practice tests and programs. Many of our tutor/counselors can also help you with a specific SAT & ACT subject area. Our Writing Center volunteers are here on Wednesday evenings and could help you improve the writing sections of each test. Although the class is a great way to get formal help, you can do great by coming by the Center for help and practicing on your own as much as possible!
Q: What should I bring to each prep class?
A: Please bring a pencil, notebook paper, folder (to keep handouts), and calculator (for math classes) and lots of great questions!
Q: What if I can’t make one of the classes?
A: Please call or email us no less than 24-hours in advance to let us know of your absence. Students who miss more than two (2) classes in either class will unfortunately lose their space in the class.
Q: What is the ACT?
A: The ACT is another great college assessment test that is accepted by most colleges equally as the SAT. The ACT can be taken even if you are also taking the SAT. You can submit scores from both tests to colleges as well. The CACDC is proud to be an official testing site for the ACT for the October 24th and December 12th tests. We will talk more about the ACT at the Combo Test workshop. Find out more at http://www.act.org.
