FREE LEGAL CLINIC at the WELCOMING CENTER for NEW PENNSYLVANIANS
The Legal Clinic at the Welcoming Center is a year old!

As with all one-year-olds, its growth and progress are worth a few remarks. From May 2006 to April 2007 a total of 220 clients came to 12 legal clinics, representing 64 different countries of origin, from Albania to Vietnam and many in between. They were served by a total of 14 lawyers, and conversations took place in Arabic, English, French, Haitian Creole, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and Spanish.

How did they hear about the Legal Clinics? A large proportion of clients cited friends, families and colleagues, as well as places of worship, community organizations and social workers. So I would like to thank all of you who receive this email for your part in spreading the word to the immigrant communities in Philadelphia and beyond and helping the Welcoming Center to serve them. (If you would like more details on the statistics, please contact Margaret Hilsdon – see below)

The next Legal Clinic at the Welcoming Center will take place on Tuesday May 8th, from 3.00 p.m. ? 6.00 p.m. This clinic is for anyone in the immigrant community who needs to speak to an attorney. The attorneys volunteer their time for the clinic, which is free of charge.

I am attaching flyers in different languages (now including Urdu) and a description of the aims of the legal clinics. Please use the ones which are useful to you and your community or organization, and once more thank you very much for your help in distributing these.

Please let me know if there is any other information you need.

Kind regards,

Margaret Hilsdon
