Free Afterschool biking programs in West Philly
Posted by Neighborhood Bike Works on August 8, 2016
While it hurts my brain to think about September already, it’s time to start thinking getting the word out about Neighborhood Bike Works’ FREE after-school programs starting up this fall. Details are below and I’ve attached the youth application (it’s the same app for all three programs). Any help getting the word out to your networks of youth, parents, youth workers, and educators would be much appreciated!
The first is Ride Club, which runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-6pm from Tuesday, September 6 to Thursday, September 29.
Ride Club is a four-week after-school program that enables youth ages 8-18 to explore Philadelphia by bike! Through group rides on NBW’s bikes, program participants engage with natural, historic, and artistic resources in their communities, introducing youth to the joys of bicycle adventure. With lessons in bike safety and the rules of the road, Ride Club stresses safe riding techniques on urban roads and bike paths, discusses bike maintenance, and reinforces health and fitness.

Two Earn-A-Bike classes will be starting at the end of September:
High School Earn-A-Bike runs Mondays and Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm from Monday, September 26 to Wednesday, November 16.
All Ages Earn-A-Bike (8-18) runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-6pm from Tuesday, October 4 to Thursday, November 17.
Earn-A-Bike is our popular flagship program. Over the course of eight weeks, youth refurbish a donated bicycle, learning the basics of bike repair and maintenance, safe urban riding, health, and nutrition. Through class participation and program completion, each student earns their bike as well as credit towards additional bikes, accessories, and replacement parts, redeemable during our Drop-In program – one of many free programs available to Earn-A-Bike graduates.

All programs take place at NBW at 3939 Lancaster Ave.
