Helping Homeowners Avoid Foreclosure
Building wealth in urban communities
GPUAC’s Community and Economic Development (CED) Committee has released the new Foreclosure Prevention Resource Guide. This essential report is designed to help professionals counseling homeowners, and individuals at risk of foreclosure, better navigate the mortgage foreclosure process. GPUAC is sharing the guide with policy makers, elected officials and community advocates, as well as housing counselors and other professionals.
Last year, recognizing the looming impact of the foreclosure crisis, the CED Committee convened a Foreclosure Prevention Task Force, whose members included bankers, housing counselors, legal aid attorneys, community advocates and local government agency representatives.
The Task Force has issued a report articulating a vision for a foreclosure prevention system and a set of recommendations for stakeholders. As a result, the CED Committee is working on a series of initiatives (including the Foreclosure Guide) in such areas as policy and advocacy, social marketing, and new product development.
