Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative Food Education Coordinator

The Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative (AUNI) is a major component of the University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) program of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships. AUNI coordinators work as part of a team with other Netter Center UACS staff. AUNI engages, educates and empowers youth, university students, and community members in a comprehensive approach to community health improvement, particularly improvement in nutrition and obesity. AUNI coordinators specifically focus on the following activities: nutrition education initiatives within public schools and community, year-round youth development programming, improving access to quality foods for students and faculty within partnering public schools and community, increasing activity and exercise levels, and increasing awareness and understanding of food systems. This position is anchored in partnerships with public school teachers in schools to develop and deliver effective curricula and programming, supervising a peer education youth crew, and developing and supporting community partnerships to help implement and expand the work. AUNI coordinators work closely with Penn ABCS courses and facilitate connections to faculty partners who are using a participatory action research framework. AUNI coordinators also work with undergraduate fellows, work-study students and volunteers to help develop, implement and expand this work. There are weekly and monthly documentation and reporting requirements with time-sensitive deadlines. Occasionally, staff is asked to work evening and/or weekends. Flexibility with weekly schedule is necessary.
