For professionals who work with students to help prepare for a college education, a significant amount of time must be devoted to understanding the financial obligations of students and parents/families. To equip counselors and college prep professionals with the tools needed to effectively advise students, a series of events have been planned. Please mark your calendar for the following:
How Can Students Afford College?
Monday, December 5 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Drexel University, Bossone Research Center, 3140 Market Street, Auditorium
Hear updates on legislation and regulations impacting students’ ability to afford college (Pell funding, debt management, academic progress).
Become familiar with resources available to help families plan and save for college.
Learn about free on-line financial planning and financial aid resources such as the “net price calculator”.

FAFSA On-line Training
Tuesday, December 6 and Wednesday, December 7
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM or 1:00 – 4:00 PM (choose one)
US Dept of Ed Regional Office, Wannamaker Building, 100 Penn Square East, Suite 505
US Department of Education Office of Student Financial Aid staff will provide hands on training in completing the most recent version of the Federal Application for Federal Student Financial Assistance (FAFSA).
Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency will provide updates on state grant and scholarship opportunities.

Financial Aid 101
Thursday, December 8 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
LaSalle University, Olney Hall – Room 100
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (PASFAA) will explain:
what happens after submitting the FAFSA
types of aid available to students
how student aid is “packaged”
changes in expected student and family contributions from year to year
how to request changes to award due to unexpected family circumstances
