FIELD ORGANIZING INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Organization Overview
America Votes is a coalition of the largest issue-based membership organizations in the nation, joined together to develop a permanent grassroots infrastructure within the progressive community. We represent more than 20 million Americans. Our purpose is to educate and turn out voters with a goal of electing progressive candidates. America Votes ensures that the enormous resources within the progressive political community ? human and financial ? are aggregated, coordinated, and applied effectively. Our partner groups work on a broad range of issues including the health care, environment, civil and human rights, reproductive rights, education, and labor.

Position Description
AV Pennsylvania seeks well-organized, self-starter individuals to work in our Field Organizing Program. We seek individuals to help identify progressive voters by going door to door in our canvass program and encouraging them to vote. Field Interns will be talking to voters, educating them on issues such as the need for health care reform, affordable higher education opportunities and protecting the environment. Field Interns must be able to work well with others and be able to help out in various tasks in a fast-paced organization focused on winning elections.

Experience is not required and the only skill necessary is the enjoyment of talking to voters and a passionate belief that we can build a better society. Training is provided. Interns will have the opportunity to work and learn from seasoned political organizers.

Duties and Responsibilities
? Participate in voter contact activities such as door-to-door canvassing, phone banking and organizing letters to the editor campaigns.
? Assist staff with grassroots organizing, voter contact, and Get Out the Vote efforts.

Qualifications
? Be Able to work regular schedule of evenings and weekends
? Ability to communicate effectively and detail oriented.
? Enjoy talking to all different types of people.
? Demonstrate passion for social justice and progressive values.
? Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
? Excellent oral and written communications skills.
? Must be willing to work sometimes long and irregular hours.
? Must look reasonably neat and presentable.

Compensation
This is a paid internship of up to $1000/ month for 25 hours of work per week. Available immediately through Nov 7th, 2006.
