National Endowment for the Humanities invites applications for Fellowships for Digital Publication program
Through the Fellowships for Digital Publication program, the National Endowment for the Humanities supports individual scholars pursuing interpretive research projects that require digital expression and digital publication.
Fellowships for Digital Publication will provide recipients time to conduct research and prepare digital publications. Successful projects will likely incorporate images, video, audio, data, and/or other multimedia materials; interactive or manipulable elements; or flexible reading pathways that could not be included in traditionally published books, as well as an active dissemination plan. Products must be published in digital form and can include monographs, peer-reviewed articles, websites, virtual exhibitions, translations with annotations or a critical apparatus, or critical editions. Projects may be at any stage of development. Grants of up to $5,000 monthly for six to 12 months will be awarded.
To be considered for this opportunity, an applicant’s plans for digital publication must be integral to the project’s research goals. That is, applicants must conceive the project as a digital publication because the research topics and methods demand presentation beyond traditional print. Competitive submissions embody exceptional research and rigorous analysis, and clearly articulate a project’s value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both.
Scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and related subfields of the social sciences are eligible to apply. Submissions from independent scholars and junior scholars are encouraged. Applicants must be U.S. citizens residing domestically or abroad or foreign nationals living in the United States for the three years preceding the application deadline.
For complete program guidelines, application instructions, and information about previously supported projects, see the National Endowment for the Humanities website.
Deadline: April 17, 2024
