Family Service Division Manager-Intake Department

SUMMARY
The employee in this position is responsible for direct supervision of case managers assigned to his/her unit or department. The individual performs and direct a wide range of diverse and complex managerial activities as it relates to intake and case management The organization delegates to him/her responsibility for enabling and helping each case manager to understand, perform tasks specific to the given areas(s) of service and provide service in keeping with the organization and regulatory standards applicable to foster care and related services. The employee in this position is responsible for administration of the organization’s intake service and for coordination of its various aspects, including direct supervision of staff on call duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The employee in this position is responsible for:

· Maintaining administrative liaison with referral agencies – mainly DHS – as pertinent to intake
· Maintaining a master file to account for all referrals and dispositional actions
· Training and orientation of new case managers in regards to general procedural requirements and case management aspects of foster care practice
· Orienting the case manager to foster care recording requirements, and dealing actively with the case manager if there are problems in the meeting recording timelines and/or other record keeping standards
· Providing on a continuous basis whatever practical theoretical or methodological assistance is needed by the case manager for specific and appropriate case handling, and for maximal use of community resources or other professional services providers and disciplines essential to effective work with foster care clients
· Consulting with case managers on a regular basis (at least monthly) basis to review individual needs and functioning
· Formulating differential supervision plans related both to service needs and the individual worker’s ability to meet those needs
· Maintaining for each worker a written supervision plan and supervision notes (date, time, and subject matter) that document:

1. Training provided through individual supervision
2. Planning with the worker (where applicable) to correct deficiencies in work performance

· Planning and coordinating unit activities and unit meetings for purposes of staff development and training
· Maintaining prescribed administrative records, statistical and service reports and correspondence

QUALIFICATIONS

· High proficiency in casework practice,
· Specialized knowledge in child and family welfare, including understanding of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and social differences and their influence on patterns of family life and child rearing; and, understanding of the growth and development needs of children and familiarity with deviations from normal patterns
· A broad awareness of the social work field, including specific knowledge of community resources and of interagency relationships and procedures
· Resourcefulness in identifying and accessing outside service systems and professional disciplines;
· Capacity to represent Agency in major intra-agency and community relationships
· Serious intent for continuing skill development in case, group and supervision practice
· Excellent oral and written communication skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or another related field in which significant course work in Social Work or Human Services can be verified. Two years of supervisory experience.
