The Family Strengthening Awards Program
National Congress for Community Economic Development

Children and families thrive when they live in supportive communities. But families facing multiple barriers to economic and social progress often lack the connections to resources and services that are taken for granted in more affluent communities. The Annie E. Casey Foundation has generously funded the National Congress for Community Economic Development to implement an annual awards program to honor for innovative programs that connect families and children with the community resources they need for economic success.

The Family Strengthening Awards Program will recognize and reward best practices in the field of community economic development (CED) by continuing to support the strengthening of families through the work of community development corporations (CDCs). NCCED, in partnership with the Casey Foundation, is committed to ensuring the identification, facilitation and promotion of knowledge, lessons learned and outcomes achieved by NCCED’s CDC members for effective community revitalization and the improvement of quality of life for children and families.

Three CDCs, whose work and comprehensive approaches improve the quality of life for families and children, create viable economic opportunities, and build healthy and sustainable communities, will receive $15,000 financial awards to further support their programs.

Application deadline: December 15, 2003
