Fall and Spring Composting Workshops
Posted by on September 29, 2006
Advance notice for people who plan ahead — and people who love to share good news so you’ll have time to get the good word into your newsletters…
The free Recycling through Composting Workshops are starting up again.
Please share this information with your friends and neighbors.
Philadelphia’s gardeners, as they rake up fall leaves and prepare their yards for winter, can build compost piles to improve the soil in their gardens, save money, and at the same time save landfill space. The Streets Department’s Recycling through Composting Program provides Philadelphia residents with free training on urban composting, including an introduction to worm farming for those who don’t have outdoor space.
Thanks to the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the City can make backyard compost bins available to qualifying participants at no charge.

(Photo ID with home address will be required at the workshop.)
Please respond ASAP – There are lots of forms to fill out, the workshops do fill up, and pre-registration is required. The schedule will continue to evolve, so check back periodically with the registration phone line and/or the Recycling web page and Channel 64. Please be sure to clearly answer all the questions. Just call 215-686-5444, then press #2, take notes on the recorded message, and leave your information if you’re ready to request a reservation. The line is available 24 hours a day, every day. And yes, I will pre-register now for spring workshops. If you prefer, you can email your responses to the list at the end of this email message.
For Oak Lane ONLY, call me directly at (215) 686-5449.
You are not registered until your forms are complete & I have confirmed with you.
If you can provide any email address referrals for Philly community garden contacts and other gardeners, please do so, so I can send them invitations, confirmations & reminders. Personal information will NOT be distributed; it is only for this program. I also welcome inquiries from organizations interested in hosting a workshop.
Thanks — Margi
