UWSEPA offers new faith-based mentoring workshops

United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s Center for Youth Development has announced a  four-part workshop series on how to develop and enhance mentoring programs at places of worship.

The Faith-Based Mentoring Series will help participants learn the concepts of faith-based mentoring and how to develop or enhance a mentoring ministry.  Whether mentoring children of incarcerated parents, youth in a nearby school, or youth in the congregation, these quality mentoring practices should be utilized.

The target audiences for the workshops are volunteers, mid-level management, and upper-level management of faith-based mentor programs who are working with, and on behalf of, youth of all ages.

The workshops are free and will be held at United Way, 1709 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, in Philadelphia.

Workshops include How to Structure a Faith-Based Mentor Program, Introduction to Mentor/Mentee Eligibility Requirements & Training Needs, Strategies for Mentor Recruitment, Screening and Matching, and How to Retain Mentors.  Participants are expected to register for all the workshops in the series. Certificates of Completion will only be given to participants completing all workshops in the series.

Courses take place Thursday evenings beginning October 14.
