Facing Another: The Gift and Challenge of an Encounter — Saturday, November 22, 2014 — 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
This day-long seminar engages and critiques, through various interdisciplinary lenses, the human project of “facing;” a primary way that human knowing of self and others takes place. How we face another; a person or a situation, what we see in such an encounter, often reveals more about the self than the other. If we are open and willing to probe beyond initial appearances, remarkable treasures may be unearthed. Naming obstacles and strengthening skills for relational growth will be provided from both scholarly and experiential perspectives. While this day leans in the direction of “for-giving,” as a desired outcome in facing another, other invitations to transformation may be the gift given and received.
