As voters make their voices heard on November 7, 2023, we’re sharing a few resources to support your students in learning about voting rights, democracy, disenfranchisement, and their own civic power.
Dig into Voter Suppression and Resistance
How have citizens been denied their role in our democracy as voters in the past and present? In this unit plan created by Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellow Patrick Sprinkle, students learn about disenfranchisement and the fight for voting rights from the Reconstruction era to the present. Then, students identify, interview, and compose a narrative about a freedom fighter in their community who is resisting the subversion of American democracy.
