Expanding Food Access: A Fresh Food Agenda for Philadelphia
Friday, October 5th
12:30 ? 4:00
Houston Hall, University of Pennsylvania
3417 Spruce Street
Through this half-day event, we will begin to assemble a ?Fresh Food Agenda? for Philadelphia. We have invited mayoral candidates Michael Nutter and Al Taubenberger to respond to comments offered by the opening panelists, who will describe best practices now emerging in New York City. Concurrent workshops will focus on local initiatives to improve access to fresh, healthy food in federal nutrition programs, institutions, businesses, and nonprofits, with the objective of identifying two or three that could have measurable impact on nutritional quality, access, and affordability.
Harris Sokoloff, of the Penn Project on Civic Engagement and the Great Expectations series, will facilitate a final session through which participants from both workshops will respond to proposals and agree upon a draft agenda for expanding fresh, healthy food access, including strategies for implementation.
Sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger and the University of Pennsylvania?s Fox Leadership Program, Civic House, and Project on Civic Engagement.
