West Mt. Airy Neighbors Searches for a New Executive Director

About West Mt. Airy Neighbors
West Mt. Airy Neighbors (WMAN), the community association for the West Mt. Airy neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is seeking a new Executive Director. The mission of WMAN is to serve as a community-­‐based volunteer organization committed to preserving and enhancing the quality of life in its richly diverse urban neighborhood.

WMAN was established more than 50 years ago to create and sustain West Mt. Airy as a racially integrated community. Today, WMAN seeks to provide a forum for community communications and problem solving, organizes volunteers for community improvement, and facilitates neighbor input into proposed development.

The WMAN Executive Director works with the West Mt. Airy community and WMAN’s Board of Directors in efforts to build a strong self-­‐sustaining non-­‐profit community organization. The Executive Director is the Chief Operating Officer of WMAN and reports to the President of the Board.

Summary of Executive Director Position

The chief responsibilities of the Executive Director are:
a) Representing WMAN at meetings and forums as required, educating the community about WMAN’s mission, and otherwise enhancing WMAN’s visibility in the community.
b) Strengthening existing relationships, and cultivating new relationships, on behalf of WMAN with other organizations, city agencies, the general public, the media, and government and elected officials.
c) Helping to manage WMAN’s ongoing administrative expenses.
d) Overseeing all aspects of resource development, including seeking opportunities for WMAN to apply for grant funding, and helping to identify and nurture prospective donors.
e) Helping to foster increased volunteer participation in WMAN activities and projects, and assisting in recruiting new members.
f) Helping to plan and execute quality programming and events.
g) Managing day to day office operations of the organization.
h) Performing tasks in order of priority with minimum daily oversight, while balancing personal commitments.
i) Performing other relevant duties as appropriate and required. West Mt. Airy Neighbors “Creating a Better Mt. Airy Together”

A B.A./B.S. is required. Experience in community organizing is desirable.
This position requires attendance at community meetings and events in northwest Philadelphia. Thus, reliable transportation is required.
