Position Announcement: Executive Director
Southwest Community Services, Inc. (SWCS) is a small but growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1988 by and for area residents. We seek to develop community driven strategies that address unmet and underserved needs. Our mission is to enhance well-being, create self-sufficiency, and build capacity in Southwest Philadelphia.
The physical plant of SWCS is comprised of three structures. Two buildings at 6424 and 6426 Woodland Avenue were purchased with a grant from the UPS foundation in 1992. Additionally, in August, 2000, the agency purchased another facility at 6350 Saybrook Avenue that encompasses over 13,000 square feet. The Saybrook Avenue facility is in the process of being renovated. All agency operations will be moved to that facility.
SWCS offers a wide range of services including youth development programs, family case management, Services to Children in their Own Homes (SCOH), HIV/AIDS Services, parenting classes, HIV/AIDS and drug/alcohol prevention education, GED classes, English as a Second Language, emergency food and a clothing bank.
SWCS is seeking an Executive Director (ED). The ED will direct program development and fund development; be responsible for fiscal oversight, contract management, execution of program requirements; planning, implementing and evaluating organizational strategies; establishing organizational culture, policies and procedures; and manage the day to day operations of the organization. As the leader of the executive management team, the ED will supervise the Associate Director and report to the Board of Directors. The candidate will:
— be a committed, talented and experienced nonprofit professional who has outstanding management skills, be able to promote teamwork among a diverse staff and has experience in managing federal, state and private contracts
— be able to maintain a clear perspective while juggling competing priorities
— have a commitment to and some knowledge of non-profit community based organizations, community development, fund development and proposal writing, working with at-risk youth and families in a community setting
— have excellent written and oral communication skills
— have research, program development, and evaluation experience
— be computer literate
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of managerial/supervisory experience with a preference of three (3) years of experience working in a community setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
— preparing reports and work statements
— data management/MIS development
— relationships with the community
— design and implementation of programs, systems, policies and procedures
— marketing
— fund development and proposal writing
— fiscal oversight
— evaluation
— strategic planning
— contract management
— personnel management
— board development
