Posted by Hopper Dean Foundation on August 26, 2025

The Executive Director will partner with a four-member, two-generation Board, two core consultants, and advisors playing a critical role in building and fostering partnerships; overseeing and directing financial resources; and supporting a vibrant, equity-driven family board. This is an exciting time to join the Foundation as strategy shifts toward deeper trust-based relationships, multi-year commitments, and movement-aligned strategies. The Foundation supports 501(c)(3) organizations and similar international groups that align with its mission with annual grantmaking of $40 million and assets of several hundred million dollars.

The Executive Director will embody relational, emotionally intelligent, and passionate leadership as they lead a well-resourced and imaginative organization alongside a small team. Although no one person will embody every quality, the ideal candidate will bring the following along with other related skills and experiences:

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, justice, and movement-building
  • 10+ years of experience and increasing levels of responsibility within U.S.-based social justice philanthropy, grantmaking, grantseeking, nonprofit leadership, and/or other related experiences
  • Deep connections to social movements with trusted relationships with grassroots frontline organizations and disproportionately impacted communities, with knowledge about, willingness to partner with, and/or existing relationships in the Global South
  • Skill in relationship building across a diverse set of constituencies
  • The ability and willingness to support the learning, management, and development of the Board and team of consultants and advisors, with experience engaging or advising philanthropic families or boards a plus

This is a remote role that can be based anywhere with a preference for those based in the U.S. where in-person meetings generally take place twice a year plus periodic travel for grantee site visits and convenings/conferences. Compensation is targeted to be within the range of $250,000 – $330,000 annually, commensurate with experience, and comprehensive benefits will be provided.

The Foundation is partnering with Walker & Associates Consulting – a Black- and woman-owned strategic management consulting and executive search firm promoting equitable community impact – to facilitate this search. Interested parties should email a cover letter, resume, and list of three professional references (references will not be contacted without your advance notice) to hopper-dean@walkeraac.com by Friday, September 12, 2025, at 5:00 pm PT.
