Historic Germantown

Historic Germantown is seeking an Executive Director who will work with the Board of Directors and its member sites to build on our beginnings and advance the new strategic priorities of the consortium. An underlying assumption of Historic Germantown is that functioning as a group creates synergies and leverages resources that transcend the capacity of individual historic and cultural organizations operating alone.

The ideal candidate will implement this vision in ways that include:leading fundraising efforts for the consortium in conjunction with the Development Committee; serving as the primary advocate for Historic Germantown and its member sites, cultivating relationships and partnerships across sectors and in our community; overseeing internal communications and building support within the consortium for closer collaboration and integration; leading the development of new collaborative programs and initiatives; raising the visibility of Historic Germantown as a regional and national resource/attraction; and promoting the development of a compelling and cohesive visitor experience.

Skills and Experience: The Executive Director will be expected to have strong fundraising acumen and marketing skills, as well as a demonstrated track record of successfully leading the growth and/or initiative of collaborative or regional organizations. The ability to promote teamwork and consensus building is a key requirement of the position. HG is operated with an entrepreneurial mindset, and the Executive Director must have the ability to envision the future, and help others do so. The Executive Director will be expected to have successfully managed both programs and staff in the nonprofit arts and culture, education or tourism field, and gained a high level of respect earned from a working relationship with key leaders in the cultural and philanthropic community in Philadelphia. An advanced degree is preferred. Salary commensurate with experience.

For over three decades, Historic Germantown’s 16 historic sites and cultural organizations have worked together to further their collective and individual interests. This enduring consortium has proved itself to be a national model demonstrating the tremendous potential of collaboration to support and strengthen cultural organizations. The group can point to impressive results of its collaborative efforts, particularly in recent years. These include unified programming across sites, school programs, public events spanning multiple sites, significant funds raised, an engaged community, joint marketing, and the hiring of a permanent staff.
