The Friends of the Free Library of Philadelphia (FFL) seeks an interim or permanent Executive Director to manage the operations, finances, and activities of the nonprofit organization. This position will collaborate with the officers and members of the board and staff to support FFL’s Mission, Goals, and Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, execute, and evaluate key programs
- Coordinate and support volunteers, Friends Groups, with staff organizer
- Supervise personnel
- Manage the budget
- Develop and facilitate a resource development strategy to build sustainable revenue from private, foundation, corporate, and governmental agencies and other sources, including: ♦ Oversee the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations and other sources, including identifying opportunities and performing prospect research ♦ Cultivate and build relationships to develop corporate sponsorship for events and key programs ♦ Further develop an individual donor base ♦ Plan and manage annual fundraising event and annual campaign
- Facilitate a communications strategy
- Represent the FFL to key stakeholders and the public
- Advocate for the needs of the Friends Groups and the branch library system
- Report to the Board of Directors
- Lead ongoing strategic discussions about possible alternative organizational structures
Education/Experience:
- BA
- 4+ years’ experience with management of nonprofit organizations, preferred
- 2+ years’ experience in grant writing and/or fundraising, preferred
Required Skills:
- Highly organized
- Able to relate with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
- Able to successfully manage and motivate staff
- Excellent written, oral communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work
- with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Solid working knowledge of budgeting, business development, and strategic planning
- Financial leadership and oversight experience, including accounting, reporting, and cost saving in the non-profit setting
- Commitment to volunteer development programs that maximize individual and organization goals
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission
Other necessary characteristics:
- Flexibility in work schedule
- Able to work some weekends
- Salary commensurate with experience.
