About CHOICE:
CHOICE ‐ Concern for Health Options: Information, Care and Education ‐ a small non‐profit organization in Philadelphia is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization in fundraising, program development, program management, public relations and supervision of a staff of seven. CHOICE provides uninsured and underinsured health‐care consumers throughout the Delaware Valley with education, short‐term counseling, referrals, assistance with applying for health‐care benefit programs, and patient advocacy. CHOICE concentrates on reproductive and maternal/child health and fulfills its mission through two primary programs: Hotline Services and Community Education.
Salary Range:
$60,000‐$65,000
This is a full‐time salaried position; some evenings and weekends required.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Provide direction and leadership to enhance achievement of the organization’s mission, strategy, goals, and objectives, both annual and long‐term.
– Oversee planning and implementation of program development and fundraising, including identifying resource requirements, identifying and researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, and administering fundraising records.
– With input from the management team, develop accountability measures for annual and long‐range strategic plans and contract/grant reporting, and establish benchmarks for meeting organizational mission.
– Assume primary responsibility for all public relations and advocacy initiatives. Identify, plan and implement 1‐2 major advocacy initiatives annually. Attend meetings and other functions to promote and raise awareness of the organization, and build new sources of support.
– Maintain excellent relationships with provider agencies, government officials, contract officers, and
collaborative partners.
– Represent agency externally on boards, committees, and coalitions as appropriate.
– Develop and support motivation and performance of CHOICE employees.
– Other duties as assigned by Board.
Other Responsibilities:
– Support the Board by advising and informing Board members and interfacing between Board and staff.
– Assist Board with development and implementation of the strategic plan.
– Ensure contract reports and reports to funders and others are complete, accurate, and delivered on time.
– Oversee the design, implementation, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs, materials, and services including assessing needs and determining staffing requirements.
– Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage organization’s resources within current laws and regulations.
– Oversee administration of approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization. Ensure
sound accounting and preparation of financial reports.
– With input from the management team, oversee the development, of with input from the management team, operational policies for Board approval and prepare procedures to implement those policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes as appropriate.
– Provide the Board with accurate, comprehensive, and regular financial reports and projections.
– Maintain up to date and current information related to trends in the field as well as best practices as they relate to CHOICE and its mission.
Qualifications:
Excellent public speaking, communication, and organizational skills. Demonstrated grant writing and contract reporting experience. Previous supervisory or administrative experience. Ability to work independently and within the constraints of deadlines. Ability to work with a Board and staff that is diverse in terms of race, culture, and sexual orientation. Commitment to the CHOICE mission. Experience with media outlets and/or public officials highly desirable. Degree in public health, social work, non‐profit management, or related field with experience in public health, ideally, women’s and/or sexual health. Masters degree preferred.
