Event Assistant for Street Fare: Sip, Savor, Stroll
Street Fare is an annual street food festival drawing thousands of Philadelphians to Germantown Avenue to enjoy food and drinks from over 50 mobile food vendors and local restaurants. This year’s event is scheduled for September 17, 2015. This popular festival has grown each year, with over 15,000 attendees in 2015.
About Mt. Airy USA: Mt. Airy USA is the non-profit community development corporation that works to improve and advance the Mt. Airy neighborhood. Currently, Mt. Airy USA works towards its mission in four core program areas: Commercial Corridor Revitalization & Business Support, Real Estate Development, Housing Counseling/ Neighborhood Programs, and The Mt. Airy Schools Coalition.
Position Description: Mt. Airy USA seeks a part-time (10-20 hours/per week) Event Assistant to help with planning for this year’s Street Fare festival. This is a short-term position through late September, 2015. The Event Assistant may also support the Commercial Corridor Revitalization department with other communications and event coordination tasks as needed.
Specific tasks may include the following:
Marketing, Communications and Public Relations:
Assist with e-blast communications promoting the event.
Assist with social media marketing of the event, including Facebook and Twitter.
Update event web-page on gomtairy.com.
Manage distribution of postcards and posters.
Administration:
Maintain detailed vendor database and payment information in google docs.
Maintain all files in an organized system, including invoices, contracts, orders, applications, graphics, press and more.
Work with staff to ensure timely payment of invoices.
Work with vendors/local restaurants and health department to ensure compliance.
Communicate logistical information to event vendors and other relevant parties.
Day of-event assistance as needed.
General Communications Assistance for the Commercial Corridor Department:
Assist in writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters.
Draft news releases, media alerts and other stories.
Design flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material.
Skills, Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidate must be highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Proficiency with excel and google docs necessary.
Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter and the MailChimp e-mail platform is preferred.
Experience Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired.
Familiarity with website management, including WordPress.
Candidate must be able to spend long periods of time on their feet and walking. Bending, crouching and reaching may be required as well as minimal lifting.
Previous internship or other work experience in communications and/or event management.
