NCTM Accepting Applications or Equity in Mathematics Grants
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is accepting applications for Equity in Mathematics grants for classroom teachers in grades 6-8.
The purpose of the grant is to incorporate middle school classroom materials or lessons that improve the achievement of student populations with a previous record of underachievement. Grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded to proposals that include the following: mathematics content as defined in the NCTM’s Principles and Standards for School Mathematics; a plan for improving achievement of the targeted students; and the anticipated impact on their achievement. (*The definition of a classroom teacher is an individual who spends half or more of his/her work time teaching in the classroom.)
To be eligible, applicants must be a current (on or before October 14, 2016) full individual or E-member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current (on or before October 14, 2016) NCTM PreK-8 school membership and currently teach math in grades 6-8 at least 50 percent of the school day. Activities are to be completed between June 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018. Past recipients of the grant are ineligible to re-apply.
See the NCTM website for complete program guidelines, information about past recipients, and application instructions.
