Environmental Round Table: The Future of Recycling and Act 101
Thursday, June 29, 4:00-6:00 PM
Pennsylvania Resources Council Environmental Living Demonstration Center
Newtown Square, PA
The Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN) and the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) invite you to a round table discussion on the future of recycling in Pennsylvania. Hear from top experts about the state of the recycling industry, the environmental and financial impact of Pennsylvania recycling programs, and challenges to sustaining and growing recycling in Pennsylvania. Share your thoughts on questions like:
- Is it time to update or overhaul Act 101, the state’s mandatory recycling law?
- How can we make it easier to know what materials to recycle?
- Is single stream still the way to go, or is increasing contamination a threat?
- How do we fix the e-waste recycling program and the Covered Device Recycling Act?
- Given changes in consumer behavior and the markets for recyclable commodities, should mandatory recycling programs be focusing on a narrower variety of materials?
- How do we encourage more recycling in small businesses without imposing prohibitive costs?
Following the discussion, attendees are invited to network with members of SBN and PRC and guests while enjoying local snacks and beverages.
Moderator: David Hess, Director of Policy and Communications, Crisci Associates; Former Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
