Job Summary:
Establishes accountability for energy consumption at every level in the School District and develops and monitors the District’s energy management program in accordance with the District’s Sustainability Plan, GreenFutures. The Energy Manager identifies and implements strategies that reduce spending on energy so that funds can be used for education; instills a culture of energy conservation throughout the District; and reduces the environmental and human health impacts associated with fossil fuel combustion.
Essential Functions:
- Establishes a program to promote energy conservation through positive feedback to all levels of the District and involves all personnel and students in taking ownership of the program’s success.
- Audits all energy and water consumption records and data and provides regular communication with principals and custodial staff regarding their building’s energy consumption.
- Prepares energy usage and budgets for all District facilities and develops procedures for efficient utilization of energy sources.
- Conducts needs assessments, provides awareness activities and delivers or coordinates professional development training to assist the District with curriculum revision or program implementation.
- Creates and oversees schedules to ensure compliance of all buildings with District policies and City mandates.
- Maintains records of federal energy conservation grants received by the District.
- Coordinates usage of facilities and ensures proper space utilization consistent with energy conservation.
- Works with the District’s Building Engineers to ensure efficient energy usage by custodial staff during summer work programs.
- Assists with the design and maintenance of the programming for computerized energy management systems to ensure operating efficiency and updates programs as necessary.
- Advises, assists, and makes recommendations to the Superintendent and other executives on alternative energy sources, consumption, and general energy conservation measures.
- Provides input on contractual support activities (capital projects) related to energy management and the purchase of any products that affect energy consumption.
- Supports and participates in the implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan.
- Manages subcontractors to develop, plan, and implement energy conservation and savings
- Serves as the District representative at management-level meetings, seminars, and conferences relating to energy use and conservation.
- Develops and maintains contact with federal and state agencies and monitors state and national energy policy trends.
- Attends training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues.
