Employment Support Specialist, Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians
Function: Provides recruitment, assessment, case management, training and placement support for the Welcoming Center’s health care related training programs. Support Employment Unit in employer recruitment and job placement for Welcoming Center clients.
Responsibilities:
• Recruitment and assessment of students for our CNA and HHA training programs
• Provision of ongoing support to facilitate students’ successful completion of training programs
• Employment Counseling and placement assistance for legal immigrants, refugees, and political asylies, specializing in but not limited to health care occupations
• Support of the Employment Unit in interviewing clients to determine education level, work history, and motivation to work.
• Work with motivated jobseekers to increase their employability.
• Recruitment of potential employers in the Greater Philadelphia area to provide employment opportunities for WCNP jobseekers
• Overall support of clients’ employment goals including: arranging training opportunities for clients, scheduling interviews with prospective employers; accompanying clients to interviews, assisting clients in completing applications, encouraging clients to accept jobs, and monitoring clients’ work activities.
• Assist clients in acclimating to jobs; serving as a liaison between clients and employers for problems such as language and cultural differences experienced on the job.
• Keep records of clients tracking them through employment search; interview; placement; and 3 and 6 month retention benchmarks.
Qualifications and requirements:
• Minimum of BA in relevant discipline or 3-4 years experience in Work Force Development, Training, or related field
• Highly organized with excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Administrative experience
• Demonstrated competence in basic computer programs including word processing and data base management
• Both team player and self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks
• Meeting facilitation or event planning skills a plus
• Ability to communicate in language(s) other than English a plus
