Background
YouthBuild Philadelphia is a two-year program for 18 to 20 year olds who previously dropped out of high school. During the first year of the program, students earn a competency-based high school diploma, receive vocational training, and serve as part-time AmeriCorps members. In the second year of the program, alumni receive support to pursue their postsecondary goals; this position primarily focuses on the second year of the program and works with employers.

Job Description
The Employment Success Manager is an exciting new position focused on increasing the success and retention of alumni in employment during the year after graduation. The primary responsibilities of this position include managing employer partnerships, generating new relationships in a variety of employment opportunities, and collaborating with team members for the purpose of matching/coaching alumni and current students with jobs. In addition, the Manager will serve as a resource to program staff for designing employment opportunities for students/alumni (including year-of-service programs, such as AmeriCorps). Finally, the Manager will design and oversee a career-mentoring experience for current students in the first year of the program (this oversight includes the supervision of some of the School’s AmeriCorps staff members).
The successful candidate should be excited by the concept that this position will continue to evolve to meet the needs of alumni/students.
The regular hours for this position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., flexibility required for periodic evening and weekend events.
Qualifications
YouthBuild Philadelphia requires the following qualifications for this position:
§ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
§ Act 34, 114 and 151 criminal background clearances
§ At least three years of experience in employer relations, career services, youth workforce development and/or postsecondary preparation
§ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as an ability to integrate a wide-range of technology and data management into daily work
§ High level of professionalism and customer-service skills
§ Strong communication skills and ability to present to large groups
§ Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented project completion skills.
Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate:
§ Ability to initiate, develop, maintain, enhance, and evaluate partnerships with external organizations that lead to paid employment for alumni/students
§ Desire to focus primarily on working with business, government and nonprofit organizations, designing program elements and working directly with alumni/students (Note: this position will balance focus on external partnerships, program design, and direct service to alumni/students)
§ Ability to initiate contact with partners, alumni or inactive students who are not conveniently available in the school building on a regular basis
§ Ability to work collaboratively with School team members and staff members in other departments (who are not direct reports) to attain the department’s placement and retention metrics
§ Ability to collect, analyze, and report data to tell meaningful stories of the alumni’s success in their employment situations
§ Desire to operate in a highly flexible work environment and the ability to work occasionally at night, on weekends, or at other variations in regular work hours
§ Commitment to preparing alumni/students for a wide range of postsecondary options: education, careers, year of service, armed forces, etc.
§ Ability to travel to locations, organizations or events in the City of Philadelphia and surrounding counties.
YouthBuild Philadelphia prefers the following qualifications for this position:
§ Experience with employer relations
§ Experience supervising staff
§ Knowledge of the Philadelphia business community, institutions of higher education and/or community based organizations
§ Experience in classroom instruction, training delivery or workshop facilitation
§ Experience in planning and implementing program or event logistics.
