AmeriCorps Alumni Sought for Prestigious Eli Segal Fellowship

Recently we announced the beginning of the search for the 2012-13 Eli Segal Fellow at the Corporation.  I wanted to make sure that you all saw and shared this announcement with your colleagues and, in particular, AmeriCorps alumni.  The fellowship is open only to AmeriCorps members who have completed their service within the past three years, but no later than June 1st 2012.

This is a great opportunity for former AmeriCorps members to be involved at high levels of the Corporation for National & Community Service.  It is a terrific learning and leadership experience, and I would encourage any former AmeriCorps members to apply.  Applications are due by February 27 and all relevant details can be found below.  To the extent that it is possible, we hope you can share this notice with your network and with former AmeriCorps members.

Thank you for helping to share this wonderful opportunity.

The Corporation for National and Community Service is seeking applications from former AmeriCorps members who are interested in serving as the 2012-2013 Eli Segal Fellow, a year-long leadership opportunity to help advance national service policy, operations, and strategy at the Corporation for National and Community Service headquarters.

This prestigious fellowship was created in 2006 to honor the legacy of Eli Segal, who was a key architect of the 1993 national service legislation and served as the first CEO of the Corporation from 1993 to 1995. In recognition of Eli Segal’s leadership and entrepreneurship, CNCS’ Board of Directors created the Eli Segal Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship is open to AmeriCorps alumni who have exceptional leadership, drive, and commitment who will help to advance the mission and strategic goals of CNCS.

The duties of the selected fellow will include working with the Director of AmeriCorps, program offices and closely with the CEO’s office on projects that advance the national service field. In addition to carrying out projects in national service, the individual will have the opportunity advance their career development and gain a first-hand understanding of national service and the workings of a Federal agency.

The fellowship will last for a term of not more than 13 months beginning in July 2012 and includes a $27,000 salary, plus benefits.

Eligible applicants for the fellowship include all AmeriCorps alums who served full-time in the past three years. Exceptions to the three-year limit may be made for candidates who have been in school full-time since serving in AmeriCorps, or who have been in military or other national service such as the Peace Corps. The Segal family will be represented in the selection process.

The deadline to apply for the Eli Segal Fellowship is February 27. For further information, application instructions, and frequently asked questions, please visit the following: http://www.americorps.gov/for_individuals/alumni/segal.asp.
