Position Title:    Educator, West Nile Virus Program Coordinator (#31329)
(Fixed-Term position, 75% appointment renewed annually, months worked March – November)

Brief Summary of Duties:  Individual will function as a member of the county extension team, responsible for the implementation of the West Nile Virus (WNV) surveillance, control and education programs.  Individual will report to the Delaware County Extension Director and the Southeast Regional Director.  Individual will supervise two technicians.

Specific Program Responsibilities:
1.     Individual will coordinate the surveillance, and control programs for WNV in Delaware County. This may include, but is not limited to:
•    Collect and report WNV surveillance data
•    Train technicians and interns in appropriate use of traps and sampling techniques
•    Deliver services as required by Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, WNV Program
•    Develop, implement and evaluate a public education program in consultation with Delaware County Office of Intercommunity Health Cooperation
•    Cooperate with municipalities and Delaware County Office of Intercommunity Health Coordination as necessary to facilitate surveillance and control programs
•    Prepare grant application for subsequent program year

2.     Ensure compliance with the Affirmative Action Plan.  Through public notification and “All Reasonable Efforts,” make educational programs accessible to all clientele without regard to age, ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or veteran status.

Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences or related areas is required.  Current pesticide applicators license OR qualification for license within 60 days of hire.  Candidate must have  a valid driver’s license, good driving record and use of a private automobile.  Candidate should possess excellent communication and organization skills and effective human relations skills.  Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without physical difficulty.  Experience with teaching, program development and evaluation a plus.  Experience in supervision preferred.  Participation in overnight travel for training and professional development as required.

Rank/Salary:  Salary and educator rank commensurate with education, training and experience.
