Sunrise is currently seeking a full time Education Specialist. This is a full-time, exempt position with competitive benefits. Salary negotiable.
Job Summary:
The Educational Specialist supports the coordination, development, and implementation of project-based learning (PBL) curriculums for all of Sunrise’s out-of-school time (OST) programs – K to 12 after school and summer camp. The Educational Specialist works with Sunrise leadership, management, and direct service staff to ensure the delivery and evaluation of high quality academic enrichment in a PBL format to students in grades K – 12. The Educational Specialist is a team- oriented individual that supports the development and evaluation of PBL around all of Sunrise’s educational enrichment focus areas. Those areas include Literacy, English Language Learner (ELL) support, STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Arts, and Math), SAT prep, and more.
Major Duties:
- Work with program staff to design/develop creative and innovative project-based educational activities that are hands-on, incorporate a variety of learning styles, and promote student engagement
- Stay abreast of current research on youth development best practices, effective curricula for OST programs, instructional strategies, and youth engagement
- Ensure educational activities are in line with current research trends and best practices for OST
- Utilize a youth-development perspective when planning all educational activities
- Maintain and foster collaborative relationships with school faculty to align afterschool themes and learning objectives with the school day
- Provide training and ongoing coaching to program staff to implement PBL and purchased curricula
- Coordinate training objectives for direct service staff, including researching available trainings and scheduling.
- Work with program staff to develop long and short-term objectives for K – 3rd grade literacy initiatives
- Ensure educational activities are aligned with identified student outcomes
- Utilize research-based assessment tools and relevant school data to track students’ academic progress in math and literacy
- Attend relevant community and professional meetings to promote Sunrise’s work, share best practices, and collaborate with community stakeholders
- Perform other duties as assigned
