Education Specialist/Ally Coordinator
Mazzoni Center is seeking to hire an education specialist/Ally program coordinator, who will an important role as part of our dynamic youth education team. Mazzoni’s Ally Safe Schools Program works with staff and young people within Philadelphia schools to help create safer, more welcoming, and more inclusive climates for LGBTQ youth.
Responsibilities:
- Student Leadership Board (SLB) Advisor
- Develop and conduct SLB orientation and on-going leadership development for SLB membership
- Plan and co-facilitate SLB meetings, sub-committee meetings
- Attend National Association of GSA Networks’ annual gathering with SLB leaders
- Develop SLB recruitment protocols and materials
- Work with SLB membership to recruit new SLB members annually from among Philadelphia-area high school GSAs
- Maintain on-going communication with SLB membership and networks
- Work with SLB membership to plan and implement regional GSA meetings, events, summits (Philadelphia Youth Pride), and other special projects
- With SLB membership, develop SLB by-laws, policies, and membership expectations
- Maintain records associated with SLB activities
- Perform other related duties
- Ally Program Coordinator
- Complete outreach to and provide technical assistance for Philadelphia-area Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs)
- Assist in the development of Ally program materials, curriculums and resources
- Assist with the development and implementation of Mazzoni Center’s annual youth summit
- Works with school administration, teachers, nurses and students to develop and maintain GSAs
Facilitator
- Facilitate of Ally Safe School and other wellness related workshops/trainings
- Facilitate and implement Student Leadership Development Curriculum
General:
- Participate in Mazzoni Center staff meetings, department meetings, external trainings, and/or meetings with partner agencies
- Protect client information at all times in compliance with agency Confidentiality Policy and PA Act 148
- Participate in weekly supervision with Youth Education Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned by Youth Education Manager and/or Prevention and Education Services Director
Qualifications:
- Committed to the mission of Mazzoni Center
- Must have or be able to obtain the following clearances:
- PA Child Abuse Record
- PA State Criminal History Record
- Federal Bureau Investigation Record (FBI)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field preferred
- Experience with GSAs, youth organizing, positive youth development, and/or youth advisory councils
- Training and facilitation skills essential
- Working knowledge of LGBTQ youth populations and local LGBTQ community resources
- Solid time management skills with exceptional follow through
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with social media technology and Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and with people from a variety of different racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, gender, and generational backgrounds
- Demonstrated commitment to safe schools for LGBTQA youth and to principles of positive youth development
