Higher Education Awareness, Dropout Prevention, and Health Initiative

Education for a Better America (EBA) and National Action Network (NAN) have partnered with the City of Philadelphia and the Community College of Philadelphia to host a Higher Education Awareness, Dropout Prevention, and Health Initiative in Philadelphia on June 15, 2013 from 10:30am to 4:30pm. It will be held in the Great Hall of the the Winnet Student Life Building on the campus of the Community College of Philadelphia and is part of a nationwide endeavor by EBA to increase the pursuit of post-secondary education, increase civic engagement, prevent school dropouts, increase financial literacy, and promote health and wellness across the country.

National Action Network President and MSNBC Politics Nation Host Reverend Al Sharpton and School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Dr. William Hite will be the “Career Spotlight” Speakers for the event and Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter will host a Dropout Prevention Youth Town Hall. The event features workshops on college admissions by Isamar Ramirez and Thomas Butler, financial aid by the Community College of Philadelphia Financial Aid Staff, and health and wellness by the “Get Healthy Philly” program. There will also be a talent showcase and fashion show hosted by Sharpton Entertainment.  There will be an audition for the fashion show and talent showcase on Friday, May 31 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Sincerely Shoes.  The address for the audition is 6152 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19128.
