Education Enrichment Specialist
Location: Honickman Learning Center & Comcast Technology Labs
The Teen Program Education Enrichment Specialist works in collaboration with the Teen Program Manager and program staff to develop, provide and evaluate instruction and programs geared towards raising the academic, technology, college-readiness and employment skills of neighborhood youth (grades 9-12). This person will be responsible for recruiting and retaining a maximum enrollment of high school students and work with them and their families. The Education Enrichment Specialist supports the Teen team and provides assistance to staff in guiding students toward post-secondary education opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to and collaborate with teen instructional staff in developing project-based learning modules and lesson plans that build academic skills and technology competencies
- Facilitate the development/strengthening of partnerships with area high schools, guidance counselors and community organizations
- Develop, provide and evaluate seminar classroom instruction geared toward improving literacy and other academic skills
- Actively recruit youth from neighborhood schools and ensure maximum enrollment
- Assess participants’ skill levels, build and maintain academic mentoring relationship with students
- Create and maintain updated files for all students.
- Provide teen program manager with accurate and updated information regarding all program activities and initiatives.
- Contribute to all required reports
- Manage CAP program data in required data systems
- Communicate with the schools and with families on student progress
- Create and monitor scheduling process for entire program
- Liaison and work with students’ families to ensure retention in the program
- Implement and manage the tutoring program
- Coordinate and collaborate with Teen College Access Program staff
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, counseling or a related field;
- Full understanding of college admissions, college counseling and how to assist students through the process;
- Experience with at-risk students in an urban environment;
- Excellent organization, planning and reporting skills;
- Excellent verbal, written & interpersonal skills;
- Strong relationship building & networking skills;
- Ability to work independently and function as an integral part of a team;
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Valid driver’s license
This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with working hours 10:00-6:00 Monday through Friday with some night and weekend hours.
