Job Announcement: Education Advocacy Coordinator

Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) is Southeastern Pennsylvania’s leading child advocacy and public policy organization, dedicated to improving the lives and life chances of children in the city, region and state. Founded in 1980, PCCY is an independent, non-profit organization.

PCCY is seeking a full-time Education Advocacy Coordinator who loves doing different things:  organizing, researching, analyzing, speaking out and writing about issues that are important to the region’s children and youth as they seek a good education.

He or she should have a strong knowledge of issues in education, experience in advocacy and public policy, ability to work with a diverse cross section of the community and the ability to engage others and work in a team.  The coordinator must be organized and able to move from the particular to the general, be adept at working with community members, parents and educators and be able to identify issues, solicit opinions, and shape strategies.

The position requires being on your toes about what’s happening in our schools, feeling passionately about the importance of improving public education and being able to build and sustain a team of colleagues, interns  and volunteers.  If you like to be where the action is, write and speak about it and juggle many balls in the air across our city, state and region, then this is the job for you.   Join us and help build a future of successful kids in successful schools.

The Education Advocacy Coordinator should have experience working with local and regional news media.  Knowledge of the education systems in Philadelphia is preferred.  Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
