Education Advocacy Campaign Field Coordinator

A statewide campaign based in Harrisburg and advocating for improved funding for Pennsylvania’s public schools is seeking an experienced State Field Coordinator to start May 1, 2016. The Field Coordinator will help coordinate the community outreach of the campaign’s many organizational members, which include child advocacy groups, labor and business organizations, associations of local school leaders, faith-based organizations, and education policy organizations. The Coordinator will also directly organize mobilization efforts in priority geographic areas where campaign members do not have current capacity.
Key Duties:

  • Engages directly in the community mobilization efforts of the campaign, helping to build campaign advocacy capacity in geographic areas not adequately served by campaign member organizations by planning and executing local educational events; recruiting people in the community to submit letters to the editor or op-eds, visit or contact elected officials, or attend events; use social media to mobilize the community; and collect stories from people about how school funding affects their lives.
  • Develops and implements mobilization strategies and plans to support the campaign’s public education funding advocacy and work with campaign partner organizations to increase capacity and impact in grassroots advocacy, education and mobilization efforts
  • Collaborates with campaign member organizations and coordinates their grasstops and grassroots advocacy through earned media events, constituent visits, call to action days, letter writing, and other advocacy efforts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in community outreach and political or non-profit advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing and leading coalition mobilization efforts.
  • Experience in public education policy and/or advocacy preferred.
  • Strong inter-personal and communications skills and ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff, stakeholders, and volunteers with beliefs across the political spectrum.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and handle variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem solving abilities and an ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge or background in Pennsylvania politics and organizations a plus.
  • Proficient in social media.
  • Some statewide or regional travel will be required, including the central and rural regions of Pennsylvania.
