Training set on working with homeless students

Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH) is a program of the Office of Student Enrollment and Placement with the School District of Philadelphia. It is delegated to ensure that students and families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia understand their education rights and receive full access to necessary resources, support and services.

The District recognizes the multiplicity of challenges most homeless, displaced, and doubled-up families encounter, and it understands its responsibility to resolve some of the issues they face and make the difference between success and failure in school.

Federal law mandates a free and appropriate public education for homeless/displaced children and youth. With an estimated 10,000 homeless students currently attending Philadelphia public schools, it is imperative that agencies work together to identify and provide these youth with appropriate academic support and services.

ECYEH will hold an outreach meeting and training on Wednesday, August 27th from 3:30-5:30pm to discuss these issues and help bring those trying to help homeless students together. The meeting will be held at the School District, 440 N. Broad Street, in the second floor auditorium.

To RSVP, call 215-400-6840 or email jmfrisby@philasd.org with your full name, organization, position, and contact information.
