Economic Opportunity Challenge Invites Proposals For $10 Million Award
Many families in the United States are confronted by formidable barriers to success. To help lower those barriers and improve economic mobility in the United States, the Economic Opportunity Challenge, a public competition launched with the support of Lever for Change, will award $10 million to the most scalable, transformative, and proven solution that meaningfully expands economic opportunity for low-income individuals in the United States.
The challenge is looking for proven, data-driven solutions that are ready to serve as a model for and be replicated in communities across the United States. Winning solutions should demonstrate a powerful strategy that can change lives and permanently remove key barriers to economic opportunity have the track record, experience, partnerships, and resources to create lasting change, as well as an evidence-based approach to scaling their impact.
Valid applications will receive scores and comments from at least five evaluation panel judges using four scoring citeria (all scores are normalized). In partnership with Lever for Change, the selection committee will review the top-scoring submissions and request additional information as needed to select up to five finalists based on considerations that may include but are not limited to evaluation panel resulting rank order, organizational capacity, geographic diversity, and feasibility. The donor will make the final choice for the $10 million winner and a number of $100,000 runners-up. The expected grant period will be up to five years.
The deadline to complete the registration form is January 28, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. PST. The deadline to submit applications is February 18, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. PST. Finalists for the award will be awarded in June 2020, and the winner will be announced in November 2020.
