Report shows jobs for ex-offenders could save millions for city
A new report prepared for the City by the Pennsylvania Economy League says that placing only 100 ex-offenders in jobs would result in an estimated $1.2 million in new tax revenues annually, while saving $2 million in criminal justice costs if they did not get arrested again.
The report was requested by Mayor Michael Nutter to support his efforts to encourage local businesses to take advantage of a special tax credit that is available to them for hiring ex-offenders.
