Early Childhood Education Program Coordinator
Early Childhood Education at Puentes de Salud serves the rapidly growing Latino immigrant community of South Philadelphia and enhances community wellness through an integrated approach to health, education, and empowerment. Puentes Hacia el Futuro, our education branch, is predicated upon the well-evidenced fact that education is inextricably tied to the health of individuals and communities. Our mission is to improve the educational achievement of children in our community to improve long-term health outcomes. The purpose of this position is to lead our pilot program in Early Childhood Education for children ages 3-5 and their families.
Description
We seek a professional in the field of early childhood education to implement our newest education initiative for children 3-5 years of age. The Coordinator will be part of a pilot program in Summer 2016 and, ideally, to continue through the 2016 academic year. The Early Childhood Education Coordinator position provides an unparalleled opportunity to work at the intersection of action and social justice as part of an organization committed to creating sustainable and equitable change. The Coordinator will engage with issues of education and equality in a community‐based, bilingual, and transnational context.
Requirements: This position is open to a professional with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the field. We seek a highly motivated, independent person with excellent interpersonal skills that is passionate about supporting the education, health, and wellness of Latino children. Advanced level of written and spoken Spanish is required with native speakers strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must feel comfortable facilitating daily lesson plans in Spanish.
Hours: 12-15 hours minimum per week with more hours possible if desired.
Responsibilities: Running daily program preparation and facilitation; communicating daily with families; facilitating weekly meetings with supporting program interns; light administration duties for program coordination.
Dates: Coordinator must be available from May 23rd-August 5th for orientation, programming, and debrief. Orientation will be 7 hours/day 5 days/week from May 23rd-June 3rd, including individual meetings with families and students. Programming will run approximately 4 hours/day for 2-3 days/week from June 6th-July 29th. The week of August 1st-5th will involve reflection and planning of approximately 20 hours total.
Stipend: Puentes de Salud will cover local (within city) transit and provide a stipend to the Coordinator.
