Digital project seeks computer donations for community training
The Urban Affairs Coalition and the City of Philadelphia are offering a unique opportunity for companies and individuals to donate used undamaged computers (2001 or newer; Pentium 4/Apple G4 or better) that will be refurbished and given to community organizations for internet access and computer training.
The city was recently awarded a federal stimulus grant to help low-income Philadelphians connect to the digital economy and broadband technologies. Together, this over $25 million initiative, called the Freedom Rings Partnership, is a major city-wide campaign that will provide broadband access and training to residents across the city of Philadelphia. As part of this effort, the Partnership will refurbish used computers and donate them to community organizations in need at the 2011 Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, January 17th at Girard College.
