Dominion Peoples Educational Grants for K-12 Math and Science Programs

Improving our children’s math and science skills is critical to
America’s future, and it’s a major focus for the many educational
programs Dominion supports. Through an innovative program of Partnership
Grants, the company works to provide elementary and secondary educators
the tools they need to revitalize math and science education. Dominion
awarded more than $135,000 to schools and educational organizations
throughout Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio. For the 2002-2003 school
year, Dominion is expanding the current program to include Pennsylvania
and West Virginia, and increasing total funding to $200,000.
Award Categories Partnership Grants are awarded in four categories:
o Mini-grants: Projects to enhance the teaching of math and science
costing up to $1,000.
o Larger grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 and must target one of the
following areas:
o Parental Involvement: Projects to increase the role of parents in math
and/or science achievement.
o Closing the Gap: Projects to help schools with standardized test
scores in math and science averaging below the 50th percentile.
o Environmental Education: Projects to develop math and/or science
skills through the study of the environment.
Eligibility
Pennsylvania — The Dominion Educational Partnership will award
approximately $30,000 in grants. Pennsylvania’s accredited public and
private elementary and secondary schools, public school divisions,
institutions of higher education, state agencies and 501(c)(3)
non-profit organizations are invited to apply. Grants are designed to
benefit students in the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong,
Beaver, Blair, Bucks, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield,
Clinton, Crawford, Elf, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson,
Lawrence, Mercer, McKean, Potter, Somerset, Tioga, Venango, Washington
and Westmoreland.
