Domestic Violence Advocate/Phone Outreach Counselor
The DV Advocate/ Phone Outreach Counselor will conduct outreach phone calls to victims of domestic violence. This contact will have been voluntary, as victims will be asked by the responding officer at the time of the incident. The purpose of the call is to conduct in depth safety planning over the phone with the victim. Additionally, following the initial contact the DV Advocate/Outreach Phone Counselor will reach the victim by phone once a week for three weeks, as a means to modify safety plans as needed and to bridge potential service gaps encountered by the victim. Additional essential responsibilities of this position will be to research and report on best practices for working with law enforcement, and to advocate with police and other law enforcement, as required. Note our hope is to have this position continue but for now this is full time schedule only through June 2011, then part time schedule.
Qualifications:
• An Associate’s Degree with 2 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required OR a Bachelor’s degree with limited experience.
• Strong communication skills required, both verbal and written.
• Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc..)
• Experience with victims of domestic violence is preferred. Prior experience in the legal field preferred.
• Previous experience in crisis counseling is preferred.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in crisis intervention is required.
• Completion of the 45-hour Domestic Training Class is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
• Bilingualism, Spanish/English is strongly preferred.
Hours: 40 hours per week with core hours from 9 am to 5pm weekdays (specific schedule TBD).
Salary: commensurate with experience as well as paid time off.
