Discovering the Genome workshop for teachers

Posted by University of Pennsylvania on May 16, 2016

We will be hosting a Discovering the Genome workshop at the University of Pennsylvania on July 18-19, 2016. Please see the attached flyer (or text below). The registration deadline is June 17 (register: http://goo.gl/forms/DfrSZlvM9c). Content is aimed at the high school level, although it may be suitable for some advanced middle school classes.

The Discovering the Genome web modules will be going live at the end of May. If you would like to be notified when we have announcements related to this project, please sign up here (http://upenn.us10.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=2dd6e9c05c3c17ff02e6d0790&id=7b9a3fc4f2).

We are also looking for a few high school biology teachers who might be interested in providing feedback about the modules. This type of feedback will be a great contribution to making this project as valuable as possible to the teaching community. If you enjoy thinking about new teaching materials and may be interested in contributing, please email me (Kristin Field, kfield@seas.upenn.edu).

One last item: We are pleased to add four new videos to our Genomics for Teachers series. These videos are “Genetics of Grocery Shopping,” “Mitochondria: Functions, Genomics and Disease,” “Animal Development – Imaging and Genomics,” and “Cancer Genomics.” They can be viewed here (http://www.nanotech.upenn.edu/ProDevWorkshops_teachers.html or https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdtJrIFNz0LbNTym3GrOxwA).
