This position serves as the Director of the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs (WRI). The Director holds responsibility for vision, values, and strategy, and collaborates with a leadership team at WRI and designates of the Rutgers-Camden campus to operationalize the vision. The Director is responsible for promoting strategic relationships with university and community stakeholders, developing and maintaining a public relations strategy, growing WRI’s core strengths (see below), and securing grants, contracts and other revenue sources consistent with the WRI’s mission, ethics, and strengths.
The Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs (WRI) is a research center at Rutgers University-Camden that collaborates with community and university partners to conduct evaluations of programs and services, leverage data for action, and support the development of community-based initiatives. Using social science research methods ranging from data-motivated storytelling to complex statistical analysis, and guided by core values of curiosity and collaboration, the WRI specializes in transforming fractured data into actionable information. The WRI supports Rutgers’ mission of community engagement in research, teaching, and service by connecting the multidisciplinary expertise of faculty to regional problems, developing research and professional skills in students, and linking the resources of higher education to communities in southern New Jersey.
Primary responsibilities include vision, strategy and leadership; networking and securing internal and external funding to sustain and grow the Institute, communications, and project work.
The Director will provide vision, strategy and leadership around WRI’s internal operations, including policies and procedures, budgeting, compliance, and staff management, that are consistent with WRI’s core values of curiosity and collaboration, and oversee the implementation of these internal operations by WRI’s leadership team. The Director will build and maintain relationships and collaborations with leaders, organizations, and stakeholders across the region, state, and country relevant to the ongoing work of the Institute.
